Awareness Program on Cyber Security, Women’s Safety & POCSO Act at Vikrant University

Introduction

An informative and impactful awareness session on Cyber Security, Women’s Safety, and the POCSO Act was organized by Vikrant University, which was aimed at educating students on the rising risk of digital threats, the laws and protections available to them, and the importance of being vigilant and responsible while interacting with today’s rapidly evolving social landscape. Further enhancing the experience of those in attendance were the contributions of prominent individuals from the police and legal fields.

Insights on Cyber Security & Women’s Safety

The session began with a presentation from Ms. Shikha Soni, Deputy Superintendent of Police for Women’s Crimes. She highlighted the growing prevalence of cyber threats and online fraud and explained the potential negative consequences associated with engaging in risky behaviour online. In addition, she stressed the importance of digital responsibility. The presentation also touched upon other topics surrounding technology such as women's rights, legal protection of women's rights, and basic self-defence skills. By listening to Ms. Soni's Program, the students learned how to remain vigilant and knowledgeable in both their everyday lives as well as online.

Understanding the POCSO Act

Ms Rashmi Bhadouriya, Officer in Charge of the Women’s Police Station, gave a compelling presentation about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act 2012, outlining the objectives of the POCSO Act, its essential components and how to report incidents involving minors under the POCSO Act. Her explanation allowed students to grasp how the POCSO Act works to safeguard minors and the significance of being aware of the criminal justice system to ensure that justice is served in a timely manner.

Interactive Question–Answer Session

An interactive question-answer session allowed students to interact with the speakers and ask many pertinent questions about cybercrime, safe practices on-line, legal recourse, and issues related to women's safety. This collaboration between students and experts provided the students with valuable perspectives on these topics as well as instilling students with confidence in addressing such sensitive matters.

Conclusion

When the students completed the program, they left having gained a better understanding of their responsibilities as a result of the awareness program they attended. In addition, the students were more aware of online safety and had more knowledge regarding their legal protections as well as confidence in their abilities to identify and react to potentially dangerous situations. Vikrant University will continue to provide these types of educational initiatives so that its students can develop into socially responsible, informed, and socially aware citizens who will be creating a safer environment for everyone.
